Ok, so where do you start? What is tempeh?
- Buy some new things at the grocery store. Stock up on beans, lentils, fresh spices. Check out the farmer's market in your area. Most large grocery stores have a health market section where you can find tofu, seitan, and tempeh, which are protein rich foods with a meaty texture. Tofu and tempeh are femented soybeans, and seitan is wheat gluten. All are low fat, it's what you cook it in that adds up the calories . But, even then you are going to be ok, since you will be using good fats like canola or olive oil or broth to prepare.
- Find out about the substitutes for eggs and butter. There are a lot of ways to bind a cookie, (hmm sounds like a bad joke) and a few alternatives to make popcorn and muffins taste rich.
- Take a class in vegan cooking. Check out your local food co-op or community college to see if there are any classes offered.
- Read some good books about the vegan diet. I recommend some on my links page
